Blink Camera Not Recording? Simple Solutions to Get Your System Up and Running Again

Blink cameras are great home security products with a host of features. Unfortunately, like all home security systems, they may experience issues from time to time.

One of the most frequent issues with Blink cameras is they stop recording motion. Fortunately, there are several simple fixes that will get your Blink camera recording again!

Check the Wi-Fi Connection

All Blink cameras, except the Mini, rely on Wi-Fi connections to function. If your Blink camera isn’t recording properly, the most likely cause is a Wi-Fi issue. Fortunately, there are a few easy solutions you can try right away that will get everything back up and running quickly.

First, test your Wi-Fi signal strength. You should be able to see at least three bars of signal connectivity on both your Sync Module and each Blink camera as shown in the app. If not, consider moving either your Sync Module or router closer to the cameras for better coverage.

Another option is installing a Wi-Fi extender, which will boost the signal strength of your wireless network. They’re affordable and an excellent addition to any home security system.

Consider investing in a mesh WiFi router, which will extend the coverage of your wireless network by repeating signals from its source to devices within range. This is more beneficial than simply moving your Blink camera to another location since it can cover more territory with just the same wireless signal.

If your Blink camera is still having difficulty connecting to Wi-Fi, try performing a hard reset of the device. This should enable it to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and start recording again.

To perform a hard reset on your Blink camera, locate the reset button and push it until a red light appears. In most models, this button can be found under the rear cover, near where the battery slot.

Once pressed, press and hold for approximately 10 seconds. If this doesn’t work, contact Blink customer support for further assistance.

When your Blink camera is not connected to Wi-Fi, it will display a red “flashing red” light as an indication. This could be indicative of low battery in the device and require replacement.

If you own a battery-operated Blink camera, expect them to last two years or so. However, if these have not been changed since then, it is recommended that you replace them promptly.

Check the Battery

Blink cameras are an excellent way to add extra protection to your home. When motion is detected, they begin recording and send clips directly to you via the Blink app. Unfortunately, sometimes the camera may stop recording altogether.

When your battery levels drop, it could be an indication of battery exhaustion. Batteries typically last two years, so it’s wise to replace them when you notice signs of wear.

Another possibility is that your device requires a factory reset. This can solve many connection issues and get your Blink camera working normally again.

To reset your Sync Module, press the reset button on its side for approximately five seconds. A red light will flash rapidly for a moment, then it’ll slowly blink blue to confirm that the reset has been successful.

The Sync Module is the primary device that enables your Blink cameras, doorbell, and home system to connect with your Wi-Fi network. It also stores all video files generated by these devices.

A strong Wi-Fi signal is essential for all devices to work together optimally, so make sure your Sync Module is in the proper position for best connectivity. Additionally, check the Wi-Fi settings within Blink app to make sure you have correct network passwords and other info.

If your Sync Module is positioned incorrectly for proper wireless connection, it could be time to move it closer. Furthermore, replacing old batteries with fresh ones will improve the sensitivity of your motion sensor and ensure proper signal reception.

Once you’re ready to set up your Blink Camera again, simply follow the instructions for installation. It should be a relatively straightforward process that doesn’t necessitate any special expertise or tools.

When your blink camera is not recording, it can be a frustrating issue to deal with. There are various reasons this might happen, such as poor Internet connection or a dead battery. Fortunately, most problems can be easily and quickly fixed with just a few simple steps. If you can’t resolve the problem on your own, contact customer support or take it to an expert for assistance.

Check the Motion Sensitivity

Blink cameras detect motion by sensing changes in the heat signatures of people and animals. This method, known as passive infrared (PIR), can vary depending on a variety of factors; however, typically speaking, a Blink camera’s detection range is 20 feet or so from its location to any human being moving in front of it.

However, if you’re getting too many false alerts or your Blink camera is activating too often, it may be time to adjust its sensitivity. Doing this will enable it to pick up on more motion events and reduce how often alerts you receive each day.

On your Blink Home Monitor mobile app, you’ll find the sensitivity slider just below retrigger time. While I wouldn’t suggest going up to ten right away, six or seven is an adequate starting point for fine tuning.

Once you’ve adjusted the sensitivity, test it out to see if the change made any difference. Try moving your Blink camera around in different spots around your house; if still doesn’t detect movement, further reducing sensitivity may be needed.

Changeing the sensitivity on one of your blink cameras will affect all of them, so be sure to do it across all. Additionally, any energy-saving features enabled in the Blink app must be turned off as well.

If you’ve adjusted the sensitivity on your camera but it still isn’t detecting movement, there may be other problems with your network that are causing this issue. First off, make sure the connection to your router is strong enough; this allows Blink cameras to communicate with each other and the cloud properly.

Second, ensure your network is secure and encrypted. Doing so will prevent hackers from remotely accessing your camera.

Finally, ensure all other devices are connected to the same network as your blink camera. This will guarantee that they can send alerts to each other.

Check the Distance

If your blink camera is not recording, you need to take steps to keep it operational. One way of doing this is by incorporating it into your home automation system. First, figure out how it connects to your network; once that’s set up, ensure that recording and displaying video clips in an acceptable manner for yourself and your family members. You should also set a schedule that alerts you when it’s time for taking it offline – after all, what good is having a smart home device if you never use it?
